Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBN) detained one person with six gold bars and ornaments weighing one kilogram at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital today (April 29).
The detainee was identified as Mohammad Oli Ahad, 46, son of late M Bazlu Mia of Sohagpur area under Ashuganj police station of Brahmanbaria district.
"Acting on tip-off, police detained him from Arrival Car-parking area-2 of the HSIA around 1:10 am," Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zaiul Haque Zia of APBN, a specialised combat unit of the Bangladesh Police told.
The estimated cost of the seized gold is Taka about one crore, he said.
The police officer said the detainee confessed his involvement in gold-trafficking as a member of the smuggling gang.
A case was filed in this connection with Bimanbandar Police Station.
