8 burnt in Dhaka gas line explosion

Eight persons including three family members sustained burn injuries in an explosion while a gas pipeline was being repaired in Dhupkhola area of Dhaka.

The injured are identified as Abdur Rahim, 50, a grocery shop owner; his daughter Mim Akter, 21, and grandson Alif, 2, egg seller Md Rashed, Jagannath University student Mehedi Hasan, 23, cloth trader Ali Hossain 30, and pedestrians Sahera Begum, 65, and Sohel, 48.

Of them, three were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and five others to Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

DMCH Police Outpost in-charge Inspector Md Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter.

According to the victims, the incident occurred while Titas gas line repair work was underway at Dhupkhola Bazar and the fire soon spread. 

Later, two firefighting units brought the fire under their control.
