Why ex-DSCC councillor Sayeed’s bail shouldn’t be scrapped: HC

The High Court (HC) today (May 2) issued a rule asking why it should not cancel the bail granted to former councillor Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed in a case over amassing illegal wealth.

The HC bench of Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury issued the rule after hearing the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) petition seeking cancellation of Sayeed's bail.

The state was asked to respond to the rule within two weeks.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the ACC while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

Earlier on November 20, 2019, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Sayeed, for his reported involvement with illegal casino business and amassing illegal wealth.

He was also joint secretary general of Dhaka South Jubo League.

Later, Sayeed was earlier removed as councillor of Dhaka South City Corporation Ward No 9.

ACC Assistant Director Ataur Rahman Sarkar filed the case against him at its integrated district office-1.

After surrendering in this case, he was granted bail by the Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge Court on February 9.

After that, the ACC made a revision in the High Court seeking cancellation of the bail.
