A court in Cumilla today (May 2) sentenced six persons to death for killing a college teacher at Sadar upazila in 2010.

All the death-row convicts - Jakir, Iliyas, Kamal, Nayon, Mithun and Jamal - are the residents of Sadar upazila. 

During the judgement, Jamal, Jakir and Iliyas were present while others are on the run.

Cumilla additional district and session judge Jahangir Hossain passed the verdict around 11 am.

According to the prosecution, Sujon, a teacher of Baropara Model School and College in the Sadar upazila, was hacked to death on October 8, 2010.

Later, the deceased's father Farruq Azam filed a case. 

Of the nine accused, two were acquitted as their charges were not proved. One accused died when the trial proceeding was underway.
