Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive convict, who was sentenced to life-term imprisonment in a rape case, in Dhaka on Monday (May 1). 

RAB arrested Azim Bepari, 40 after conducting a raid in Shyampur area.

According to RAB sources, on December 24, 2021, a case was filed against Azim for raping a girl at Shahbag police station.

However, the crime was proved during judicial proceedings. Later, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment with rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Tk 2 lakh, if fails to pay another 6 months imprisonment without labor, said RAB.

Senior ASP of RAB-2 Fazlul Haque confirmed the matter. 

He said, "Azim in his primary statement said that he raped his elder daughter, later his wife filed a case as plaintiff. When Azim was released on bail after serving 13 months in jail he went into hiding."

Legal action against him is under process, said ASP Fazlul Haque.
