An explosion took place in an unauthorized cylinder storage and refill warehouse in Savar on Thursday (May 4).  

However, no casualties were reported.

The incident happened around 6am next to Kathgara AR jeans factory in Ashulia.

According to Rezaul Karim, a local resident, “Large sized cylinders were kept in this warehouse next to our house. I sometimes see gas filling from big cylinder to small cylinder. This morning suddenly the cylinder started exploding with a loud noise. The entire factory was on fire. Later I called 999 to inform the fire service.”

Ahmadul Kabir, station officer of Jirabo Modern Fire Service, confirmed the matter. 

He said two units of fire service rushed to spot  after receiving information and brought the fire under control after half an hour.

The fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit, said the station officer.

Cylinders were stored and refilled there without any approval. They did not have any fire license. Now, the Department of Explosives will look into this matter, he added.
