Arav Khan’s arms case verdict on May 9

A Dhaka court today set May 9 for delivering the verdict in an arms case filed against notorious gold trader Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan now based in Dubai.

Dhaka Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Murshid Ahammad set the date as both prosecution and defence concluded their arguments in the case today.

Ten witnesses out of 20 have been examined in the case.

Arav, a fugitive accused in the murder case of a police inspector, was arrested in Maghbazar on January 28, 2015, with a loaded revolver as he allegedly went there to threaten his father-in-law Sekendar Ali to extort money from him.

Police later filed the case against him with the capital's Ramna Police Station.

Investigation officer and detective branch (DB) of police sub-inspector Sheikh Hasan Muhammad Mostafa Sarwar on March 1, 2015, filed formal charge against him. On May 10, 2015, the court framed charges against Arav, but he managed to come out of jail after securing bail on March 14, 2018, in the case.

The court on October 24, 2018, issued arrest warrant against Arav.
