An English teacher of Govt Bangabandhu College was sent to jail for allegedly raping a student in Gopalganj on Tuesday (May 9).

The arrestee was identified as Golam Mostofa, assistant professor of Department of English of Govt Bangabandhu College.

Senior Judicial Magistrate, Anushree Roy of Gopalganj Court issued the order this morning after Golam Mostofa was produced before the court.

According to information, Golam Mostofa was arrested on charge of raping a first-year Honors student of Islamic History and Culture Department on Monday.

On Sunday (May 7) afternoon, Golam Mostofa asked the student to come to his house. When she reached there, he raped her. 

The victim's mother filed a case against the teacher the next day.

Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Officer in charge Jabed Masud confirmed the matter.

He said following the victim's medical report, the teacher was arrested. 

Earlier, there were many reports against the teacher, but no one complained to the police, the OC said.
