DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday urged the Danish government to invest in Bangladesh’s gas-exploration sector, as the country is in urgent need of striking additional amounts of the fuel.

She made the call while Denmark’s outgoing Ambassador Einar H Jensen paid a farewell call on the PM at Gana Bhaban.

The premier discussed with the envoy two countries’ mutual cooperation, including in fields of trade and investment and climate change, during the meet, said an official release.

The Ambassador appreciated the PM’s role in the climate summit in Copenhagen.

Mentioning different government projects for resolving power crisis the premier said, “The government has taken initiative to install windmills in coastal areas, mainly under Kuakata, Patharghata and Patuakhali projects.”

She thanked the Danish government through the envoy for helping to install Sayedabad water-treatment project.

Sheikh Hasina also requested Denmark to import ship, textiles, medicine and ceramic products of Bangladesh.

MA Karim, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, Prime Minister’s office secretary Mollah Wahiduzzaman and press secretary Abul Kalam Azad were present on the occasion.
