A mentally challenged boy was allegedly beaten up by the locals for stealing cooked rice in Bogura Sadar Upazila.
The injured boy identified as Sabbir Hossain, hails from Baropur Lailipara area of Bogra Sadar Upazila. He is mentally unstable and estranged from his family due to drug addiction.
The incident happened at Lailipara area of Nishindara Union of the upazila at around 11 pm on Monday (May 22).
Besides, a video of torturing the boy went viral on social media.
District additional superintendent of police Sharafat Islam confirming the matter said legal action will be taken against those involved in the inhuman incident.
According to locals, on Monday night Sabbir was trying to steal cooked rice through the kitchen window of a house. When the people of the house saw him and screamed, he tried to run away. In no time the local people chased and caught him.
Later, he was released after about an hour of torture with his hands and feet tied, locals added.
