A woman and her daughter were stabbed to death by criminals inside their house in Noakhali Sadar upazila on Wednesday (June 14).

However, the locals held a man in connection to the murder and handed him over to the police. The identity of the man could not be known immediately. 

The deceased were identified as Nur Nahar Begum, 45, wife of Fazle Azim Kochi, and their daughter Fatema Azim Priyonti.

The incident took place around 11:00 am at Guptanko Barlington Intersection area in the municipality.

According to police and locals said the attackers entered the two-story building and stabbed Nur Nahar to death. They also stabbed Priyonti, leaving her critically injured. She died on the way to the hospital.

Mizanur Rahman Pathan, inspector (investigation) of Sudharam Police Station confirmed the matter.

The motive behind the killing could not be known immediately. Police are investigating the incident, Inspector Mizanur said.
