Garment workers blocked the Nabinagar-Chandra highway on Wednesday (June 14) morning after a female worker was killed in a road accident in Panishail area in Gazipur district.

According to information, Alpana Akter, a worker of 'Ha-meem Group' was entering into factory in the morning. At that time, a car ran over her, leaving her injured.

Later, Alpana was rescued and taken to hospital where the doctors declared her dead.

In protest of the accident, workers rushed to the spot and blocked the highway for three hours.

However, the workers left the highway at around 1 pm when police assured them of compensation for the family of the victim.

Kashimpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter.
