6 killed, 8 injured in fatal bus-tempo collision in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: Six people were killed and eight injured in a terrible head-on collision between a badly driven bus and a tempo on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway in Godagari upazila Saturday.

Five of the dead were identified as Mohammad Ali, 32, Didarul Hasan, 36, and Arash Ali, 30, of Char Shahjahanpur in Chapainawabganj and Tariqul Islam, 28, and Fardin, 4. Identity of a woman, aged about 30, could not be known immediately.  

“A Rajshahi-bound bus from Chapainawabganj collided head-on with a tempo coming from the opposite direction at Kamarpara at about 10:30am,” says a spot account of the fatal accident.   

Three tempo passengers died on the spot while 11 others were injured in the collision, Godagari thana OC Zakirul Islam said. Of the injured, one died at Godagari Hospital while two at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Three of the injured were admitted to the RMCH. They are Firoz, 36, his wife Miniara, 32, and Ruli, 20.  

Condition of Firoz is “critical”, hospital sources said.

Police seized the killer bus. Both the drivers fled the scene.
