A five-member probe committee on behalf of the deputy commissioner has been formed to investigate the Jhalakathi road accident that claimed at least 17 people today (July 22).

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Mohammad Mamun Shibli has been made the head of the inquiry committee.

A notification signed by District Commissioner Farah Gul Nizhum was issued in this regard today (July 22).

Earlier, at least 17 passengers were killed and 23 injured after a bus plunges into a pond in Chhotrokanada area under Sadar upazila of Jhalakathi this morning.

There are eight women and three children among the deceased.

The 23 injured are receiving treatment at Sadar Hospital, Some of them are slated to be critical.
