Train services from Dhaka halted today (September 3) as temporary railway workers of Bangladesh railway blocked Malibagh level crossing in the capital demanding regularization of their jobs.
The contractual railway workers have been protesting since 10:00am.
Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Masud Sarwar confirmed the matter.
“Due to this protest rail connectivity between Dhaka and other districts was temporarily disrupted,” he said.
The workers protesting at Malibagh said, “Our protest is in demand of permanent employment to temporary workers who have been working for a long time under Bangladesh Railway through the implementation of the official gazette.”
Despite repeated approaches to the Ministry of Railways and the Railway Authority, no action was taken, they said, adding workers are worried in this regard.
