An earthquake of 4.4 magnitudes on the Richter scale jolted Sylhet on Saturday (September 9) afternoon.

The earthquake was felt at 4:18 pm, said Farzana Sultana, assistant meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department. 

The earthquake's epicentre was in Assam, India, 263km away from the Dhaka Seismic Centre, Farzana Sultana added.

There was no immediate report of casualties or damage.
