Zohra Tajuddin laid to eternal rest

DHAKA: Awami League Presidium Member Syeda Zohra Tajuddin, also wife of country’s first Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmad, was buried at Banani Graveyard in the capital on Sunday evening.

Bangladesh Police paid ‘guard of honor’ to her funeral at 06:39pm.

The Awami League leader died of old-age complications at a city hospital on Friday morning at the age of 80.

A pall of gloom descended on Kapasia of Gazipur, the birthplace of the AL leader, after her body reached there on Sunday. Many were seen weeping their eyes.

Three namaz-e-janazas of Zohra attended by large-number of people were held in her native district.

Zohra’s son and former State Minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj, members of parliament (MPs) and political leaders, among others, attended the first janaza held at Dardaria Primary School field in Kapasia.

She breathed her last at 10:30am on Friday in city’s United Hospital. She was 80.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at the death Syeda Zohra Tajuddin.
