The Election Commission (EC) has ordered the withdrawal of police commissioners of Barisal and Sylhet metropolitan police and superintendents of police (SPs) of five districts ahead of upcoming 12th national parliamentary polls scheduled for January 7.
EC also ordered the withdrawal of the deputy commissioner of Brahmanbaria.
The instructions signed by EC’s Deputy Secretary Md Mizanur Rahman were sent to secretaries of concerned ministries on Sunday.
In the letter sent to the senior secretary of the public security division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, instructions have been given to withdraw the superintendents of police (SPs) of Habiganj, Pirojpur, Noakhali, Satkhira and Meherpur along with two police commissioners of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) and Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP).
In the letter sent to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, instructions have been given to withdraw the deputy commissioner of Brahmanbaria and to appoint a qualified and experienced deputy commissioner there.
Also, in another letter sent to the senior secretary of the home ministry, the EC also asked to withdraw the officers-in-charge of Manikganj Sadar, Singair and Sreepur police stations and asked the concerned authorities to depute appropriate officers in their places.
