The primary selection round for the ‘Quraner Noor’, an international Quran recitation contest, will take place for the candidates in Dhaka's north and the south city corporation respectively on Wednesday and Thursday at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
“We hope that around 500 students (hafizes) from each of the units will take part in the audition,” the Coordinator of the competition arrangement committee for Dhaka South City Corporation Mufti Kaium Molla said on Tuesday.
The best 20 students will be selected from each unit for the second round of the competition, he said.
The auditions in Dhaka city mark the conclusion of the countrywide primary selection round.
A total of 120 students will be selected for the upcoming second round, according to the organisers.
Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Musalli Committee is organising the event titled ‘Quraner Noor International Hifzul Quran Competition-2024’, powered by Bashundhara Group, the country’s leading business conglomerate.
The national-level champion of the competition will receive Tk10 lakh while the international champion will get Tk15 lakh.
The recorded programme will be aired on News24 and its YouTube channel from the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.
