At least 44 people were sued for their alleged involvement in vandalism and arson attacks at Daudpur Union Parishad office in Rupganj of Narayanganj.
Daudpur Union Chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir Master filed a case under the threat of death report at Rupganj Police Station as the plaintiff on Wednesday night.
"The chairman of that union has filed a case mentioning the names of 44 people in the attack on UP Parishad on Wednesday night. The case is under investigation. However, no one has been arrested so far,” Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Deepak Chandra Saha told the media on Thursday.
Earlier on Tuesday, miscreants carried out a hellish rampage to foil the warm cloth distribution programme of Daudpur Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir for supporting Shahjahan Bhuiyan, an independent candidate in Rupganj of Narayanganj.
Chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir said that local activists of the Jubo League and Chhatra League started gathering in front of the gate of the Daudpur Union Parishad on Tuesday to foil the blanket distribution programme.
The attackers blocked the UP chairman inside the council, and at least 20 people were injured in the attack. The rampage took place under the leadership of Mizanur Rahman, the brother of controversial businessman Rafiqul Islam, sources claimed.
Nurul Islam Jahangir said that Rafiq and his terrorist brother Mizanur gave instructions without being directly present, thus their cadres carried out the attack.
“Basically, they gave this instruction from behind so that they do not appear in the video recorded by someone during the attack,” he said.
Regarding a question about the absence of Mizanur Rahman, the mastermind of the incident, the UP chairman mentioned that he received a life threat from the gang of Rafiqul Islam and his brother Mizanur Rahman.
