A total of 29 members of Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP) entered Bangladesh on Monday (Mar 11) morning and took shelter amid worsening clashes between the Myanmar junta and rebel Arakan Army forces.
Last month, about 330 Myanmar people, including 302 BGP personnel, had fled to Bangladesh amid intensifying Arakan Army attacks on the areas bordering Bandarban’s Naikhongchhari upazila. The Bangladesh armed forces later sent them back across the border.
In the latest border crossing incident, BGP personnel entered Bangladesh through Bandarban’s Jamchari border area to seek refuge, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam confirmed Monday afternoon. BGB took the BGP personnel into custody.
