Members of Dhaka metropolitan police (DMP) detained Jagannath University (JnU) assistant proctor Deen Islam and student Amman Siddiqui and handed over to Cumilla police today (March 17) over the death of Fairuz Sadaf Abantika.

DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman confirmed the matter.

Later, police found involvement of classmate Amman Siddiqui and Deen Islam in Abantika’s death.

D. Mohid Uddin, Additional commissioner (crime and ops) disclosed the matter at a press briefing organised at DMP media centre in the capital.

A case was earlier filed by Abantika’s mother against the two detainees with Cumilla’s Kotowali police station for instigating Abantika to suicide.

According to DMP, if evidence of their involvement in the incident found, necessary action will be initiated then, the officer informed the journalists.

While talking about the case, D. Mohid Uddin said a general diary (GD) was lodged with Kotowali police station on August 4 in 2022 mentioning offensive posts had been sent to her from fake Facebook IDs.

Later, Abontika lodged a complaint at JnU Vice Chancellor office, although the matter was settled administratively, it seems that she was mentally disturbed, the officer also added.
