DHAKA: Bangladesh Betar steps up its effort to bring 75 percent of country’s population under the FM (frequency modulation) network coverage.

The state-owned radio service will install 12 FM transmitters at 10 radio stations across the country in the next four months.

“On completion of the network installation, 75 percent population of the country will come under FM coverage,” Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Betar AKM Shameem Chowdhury told banglanews24.com.bd.

The new transmitters will be installed in Dhaka, Comilla, Jessore, Cox`s Bazar, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur and Barisal.

The FM coverage of the Betar now covers around 25 percent of the population.  

The Betar DG believes the initiative will popularise the government radio service among the FM audience. It will also play an important role in the field of education, entertainment and motivating the young generation for positive changes through news and programs.

Installation of new transmitters, the broadcasting quality will be improved that may woo more listeners, he added.

Now a days, Dhaka-based private FM radios are popular among the listeners.

With its new FM network, the Betar will be a major player to dominate the competitive market of radio broadcasting in the country.

A US based company has supplied transmission equipment and hardware that cost the government Tk14.85 crore.
