DMCH patients suffer as doctors halt services after assault

Patients at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) are suffering as doctors and staff began a work abstention, halting services in various units, including emergency and outpatient departments.

The work stoppage was prompted by an alleged assault on a doctor yesterday, leading to a 24-hour ultimatum issued by doctors and students.

They demanded the identification and punishment of the attackers, threatening a full hospital shutdown if their demands were not met.

However, the work abstention began before the ultimatum expired, with doctors gradually leaving the hospital throughout the morning. By 9:30 am, emergency medical services had ceased, and patients were seen leaving in search of care elsewhere.

Inspector Md Bachchu Miah, in-charge of the police camp at DMCH, confirmed that medical services were suspended from 9:00 am in the emergency and other departments.
