A new murder case has been filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, Diamond World Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala and 202 others in connection with the killing of Chittagong University (CU) student Hridiy Chandra Tarua.
The case was lodged by Azizul Hoque, a friend of the deceased, at Chandgaon police station on Friday, confirmed Officer-in-Charge Aftab Uddin.
The accused include prominent figures such as former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, former education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Jatiya Party Presidium member Anisul Islam Mahmud, Tarikat Federation President Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari.
Other high-profile names include former lawmakers ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi, former Chattogram city mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, and Awami League leaders AJM Nashir Uddin and Kazi Akram Uddin.
Media figures like former Chattogram Press Club general secretary Shuklal Das, Somoy TV Chattogram Bureau chief Komol Dey, and Ekushey TV’s former resident editor Rafiqul Bahar have also been named in the case.
In addition, 400-500 unidentified individuals were also made accused.
The plaintiff claims that Hridiy Chandra Tarua, a student of CU’s history department, was involved in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Chattogram on 18 July.
On that day, some of the accused allegedly financed and directed an attack on students, during which Hridiy was shot at.
He succumbed to his injuries on 23 July while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
