Police have arrested former Election Commission secretary Md Jahangir Alam from Dhaka's Gulshan area.

Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka metropolitan police media wing, confirmed the matter.

Jahangir Alam was the EC secretary in the 12th national election.

After the election, the Awami League-led government appointed him as the home ministry's joint secretary.

He was forced to resign on 14 August following the fall of the Awami League government.
