One dead after fire on BSC vessel in Chattogram

A crew member has died following a fire aboard a Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) vessel near the Naval Academy in Chattogram's Patenga area, just five days after a deadly explosion and fire on the 'Banglar Jyoti.'

The fire reportedly broke out around 12:50 AM on Saturday after an explosion on the oil tanker.

After four hours of intense effort, the coast guard, navy, and port authorities managed to bring the blaze under control.

According to the Chattogram Fire Service, they received a 999 emergency call over a fire on the 'Banglar Saurav' in the Bay of Bengal. Fourteen out of the 50 crew members jumped into the sea in panic. Some were rescued by nearby fishing trawlers, and with the help of the navy and coast guard, all 49 crew members were eventually rescued.

One crew member, identified as Sadeq Mia, 59, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Chittagong radio control sources confirmed that 50 crew members were on board, and 14 had jumped into the sea during the fire.

This incident comes shortly after the explosion on September 30 aboard the 'Banglar Jyoti,' docked at Dolphin Jetty 7, which claimed three lives.
