IGP directs all police units to strengthen special operations

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Moinul Islam has directed police units nationwide to intensify the ongoing special operation against criminals involved in terrorism, extortion, muggings, drug trafficking, and juvenile gangs.

This directive was issued in a special message sent to all police units on Monday (Oct 28), underscoring the commitment to establish stronger law and order.

According to message, the nationwide operation, which commenced on October 18, has been targeting individuals linked to significant murder cases, violent attackers in anti-discrimination movements, and suspects from crime-prone zones through rigorous combing operations.

Besides permanent checkpoints, temporary ones have been set up, with enhanced patrols and intelligence surveillance.

Currently, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) operates over 150 fixed and mobile checkpoints, supplemented by 300 motorcycle patrol units and 250 additional patrol teams.

Police said that as of October 27, the operation has led to the arrest of over 1,144 individuals on drug-related charges, 1,140 on charges of assaulting student activists, 200 muggers and extortionists, 16 listed terrorists, and 55 individuals in illegal possession of arms.

The operation continues to target those who have used political affiliations to shield their criminal activities, with cases and arrests against these individuals being systematically processed.
