The interim government has appointed Akhter Ahmed as the senior secretary of the Election Commission on a contractual basis.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification about this on Thursday. According to the notification, Akhter Ahmed’s appointment was made under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018.
His two-year term will begin from the date he joins the position, but it is subject to his resignation from any other jobs or affiliations, including roles in government, semi-government, or private organizations, the ministry stated.
The details of his appointment will be finalized through an agreement. The ministry added that the order was issued in the public interest.
This decision follows the government’s removal of EC secretary Shafiul Azim from his post on Tuesday, reassigning him as an officer on special duty (OSD).
