Equal interests key to relations with India: Foreign affairs advisor

Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain underscored the need for maintaining respectful and equitable relations with all countries, including India.

Speaking at a meeting with upazila-level officials and stakeholders at the Belab Upazila Conference Room in Narsingdi on Saturday (December 14) afternoon, he reiterated the government’s commitment to diplomacy rooted in mutual respect and shared interests.

“We have sent a clear message to India: we want good relations, but these must be founded on the principle of equal interests for both sides,” he stated.

Touhid Hossain said that the government has been entrusted with this role to implement necessary reforms and ensure the transfer of power to politicians through fair and impartial elections.

“We were given this responsibility in special circumstances. After reforms, we will hand over power to elected politicians, who will then run the country. However, it is your responsibility to ensure that students do not have to take to the streets again. Let us protect the lives and futures of our young people,” he said, addressing the audience.

Officials and stakeholders from various sectors attended the meeting with Belab Upazila Executive Officer Md. Abdul Karim in the chair.
