Mild cold wave: Panchagarh temperature hits 9°C

A mild cold wave has been sweeping over the northernmost district of Panchagarh for the past three days, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures.

The cold northern winds have made the weather feel even colder; making this cold spells one of the harshest of the winter season. Residents are feeling the full impact of the low temperatures.

Earlier on Friday (December 13), the temperature in Tetulia, a key town in Panchagarh, recorded the lowest of the season, dropping to 8.4°C.

However, the temperature has slightly risen since then.

On Saturday (December 14), the temperature in Tetulia recorded 9.2°C at 9 am, and by today (December 15) morning, it had increased further to 9.5°C at 6 am.

The meteorological office noted that the temperature in the district had fluctuated earlier in the season.

On November 30, the lowest temperature recorded was 10.3°C, followed by 10.5°C on December 1, and 10.9°C on December 2. Other daily readings include 11°C on December 3, 11.4°C on December 4, 12°C on December 5, and 12.3°C on December 6.

By December 10, temperatures rose to 13.7°C, but since then, the weather has been steadily cooler, with 12.6°C recorded on December 12 and the coldest on December 13 at 8.4°C.

Despite the drop in temperature, there has been relatively less fog in the region, providing some respite to the locals. Besides, the sun made an appearance on the morning today, offering brief relief from the otherwise harsh weather conditions.

Roknuzzaman Rokon, an observer at the Tetulia Weather Observation Center, said that although the lowest temperature of the season, 8.4°C, was recorded in Tetulia on Friday, it has since risen to around 9°C.

“This morning, the temperature was recorded at 9.5°C. For the past three days, a mild cold wave has been sweeping over the district," he added

The cold wave continues to have an impact on daily life in Panchagarh, as temperatures remain low and chilly northern winds persist. With no immediate relief in sight, residents are bracing for more cold weather in the coming days.
