West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has accused India’s Border Security Force (BSF) of facilitating infiltration from Bangladesh to destabilize the state.
She claimed that the actions are being carried out with support from the central government.
During an administrative meeting on Thursday (Jan 2), Mamata expressed concerns over alleged cooperation between a section of state police and BSF in allowing illegal entry through border areas such as Malda’s Islampur, Sitai, and Chopra.
She said that BSF is enabling the infiltration and mistreating of women, while the police have remained silent.
The CM directed the state’s Director General of Police, Rajeev Kumar, to gather detailed information on the number of infiltrators and the specific border points used for entry.
She said that border management and visa issuance are responsibilities of the central government and the BSF, not the state police or her party.
Mamata further criticized the lack of communication, stating that earlier lists of entrants from Bangladesh were shared with the state, but this is no longer the case.
She claimed that efforts to defame the Trinamool Congress by associating it with infiltration are baseless, as border security is solely the responsibility of the BSF.
The Chief Minister also announced her intention to send a strong letter to the central government demanding an explanation for the increased infiltration into West Bengal.
