Voting in Moheskhali upazila underway

MOHESKHALI: The voting in Moheskhali upazila is underway from Saturday morning in the second phase of Upazila Parishad elections amid tight security.

Some 25 candidates are vying for three posts—chairman, vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman—in the upazila.

Moheskhali upazila Nirbahi officer Anwarul Naser told banglanews that some 1,88,528 voters are likely to cast their votes to elect their three representatives from 25 aspirants. Off them, there are 96,876 male and 91,655 female.

A total of 7,66 polling officers, 68 presiding officers and 383 assistant presiding officers, are taking votes in 383 booths of 68 vote centers in the upazila.  

Moheskhali thana officer-in-cahrge Alamgir Hossain told banglanews that local administration has indentified 40 polling centers out of 68  as risky ones. So, tight security measures have been taken to ensure a free and fair poll. Nine magistrates are discharging duties of mobile court.

Under supervision of them, 70 BGB men, 40 navy personnel, 40 RAB members, 816 Ansar men including 270 female members more than 600 policemen including 67 female members of the force were deployed in the area, the OC added.
