MUNSHIGANJ: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by the upazila BNP, passed off peacefully in Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday.

The party enforced the general strike in the upazila demanding re-election at the upazila.

BNP activists brought out separate processions in the town and Muktarpur area during hartal hours.

Meanwhile, most of the shops remained closed of those areas but rickshaws, auto-rickshaws were seen plying on roads in several parts of the town.

Officer-in-Charge of Munshiganj Sadar Shahidul Islam told: “No untoward situation was reported yet. Additional police forces were deployed at various important points.”
