ACC finds lawmakers guilty

DHAKA: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found “many disparities” in the wealth statements of several ministers and MPs, according to the electoral affidavits.

ACC Commissioner M Sahabuddin Chuppu came up with the assertion on Wednesday.

He said many of the parliament members were quizzed and found guilty in showing their wealth statements consistently according to their affidavits.

The names of them will be disclosed later for the sake of interrogation, he added.

He further said that ACC officials are also interrogating details of their assets.

M Sahabuddin Chuppu said that no government was free from corruption but the former BNP-led 18-party government brought the country to the top in corruption list.

The people, to be found guilty, would be penalized under the ornament of the law of the country, he added.

However, the ACC is in real action with full motion as it has already quizzed Abdur Rahman Bodi, ruling Awami League MP from Cox`s Bazar-4 (Ukhia-Teknaf), Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, MP of Satkhira-3 and former Health and Family Welfare Minister, former Water Resources State Minister and current Member of Parliament Mahbubur Rahman.

Aslamul Haque, a ruling party lawmaker from Dhaka-14, former Jatiya Party lawmaker MA Jabbar from the Satkhira-2 and Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan, former Minister of State, Housing and Public Works were also included in the list.
