A court in Kushtia has sentenced nine people, including former UP chairman and JSD leader Moshiur Rahman Milon, to life imprisonment for the murder of Awami League leader and rural physician Lutfor Rahman Sabu. 

The court also ordered each convict Tk 20,000 fine, if failure to pay will result in additional six months in jail.

Kushtia District and Sessions Judge Sumia Khanom passed the verdict on Sunday (March 23) afternoon. 

Public Prosecutor Khandaker Sirajul Islam confirmed the matter.

On January 11, 2017, Sabu was attacked and hacked to death by assailants in front of the Ambaria Union graveyard in Mirpur upazila while he was on his motorcycle. Following the incident, his family filed a murder case at Mirpur Police Station. After the trial, the court found the nine accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
