The government on Monday (March 24), dismissed rumors about the declaration of a state of emergency, calling it baseless gossip.
Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Gani made the remark while speaking to reporters after an event at the Secretariat.
Earlier, on Sunday night, social media was flooded with claims about an emergency declaration, particularly from supporters of the ousted Awami League government.
When asked about the matter, the home secretary said, "This is just gossip. I have no comments on it."
Regarding law and order, he said that there is no indication of deterioration.
"The usual level of risk remains, and the situation is under government control," he added.
He also assured that authorities, including the police, are on high alert to maintain stability.
The event was attended by Home Ministry Adviser Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, and other officials.
