Moderated talk with Matthias Nass at Goethe-Institut

DHAKA: Moderated talk and open Q&A with one of Germany’s top journalists, Matthias Nass, will be held at the Goethe-Institut’s premises in Dhanmondi.

German Embassy in Dhaka will organize the programme at 7.00pm on March 11.

As one of Germany’s leading international correspondents, Nass is visiting Bangladesh on the topic of “Human Rights and Democracy” through the Lecturers’ Program of the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Nass has been working for the German weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT since 1983.

DIE ZEIT is one of the most renowned and influential German newspaper with a circulation of more than half a million readers.

From 1990 to 1997 Matthias Nass was its deputy political editor and managing editor, and from 1998 to 2010 deputy editor. Since 2011 Nass is the chief international correspondent of DIE ZEIT and therefore often visits Asia and the USA.

His primary field of work is foreign affairs, with a special interest in human rights. Through his journalistic work Nass has a relevant impact concerning international issues and decomposing preconceptions in the German society.

During this event Nass will share his own experiences as well as giving insights on the topic of human rights from an external perspective.

The discussion will be moderated by Tahmina Shafique, an expert on the field of issues relating to violence against women as well as economic and livelihood development.

Tahmina is a coordinator for VDAY Dhaka and One Billion Rising Bangladesh. Tahmina brings years of experience in research on and practical work in the field of human rights and also worked as an investigative journalist for four years.

The event will include a moderated discussion as well as an extensive open questions and answers session. Entry is free and open to all.
