Myanmar has confirmed to Bangladesh that 180,000 Rohingyas, out of a list of 800,000 sheltered in Bangladesh, are eligible for repatriation. The verification of another 70,000 is pending further scrutiny.
This was disclosed to Dr. Khalilur Rahman, High Representative to the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, by Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister U Than Shew during a meeting at the sixth BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok today.
Myanmar also assured that the verification of the remaining 550,000 Rohingyas on the list will be expedited. This marks a significant step toward resolving the Rohingya crisis.
Dr. Rahman also expressed condolences for Myanmar’s earthquake victims and reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to providing humanitarian aid.
