Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqur Alam today (April 6) said Bangladesh will send two official letters to the United States within the next 48 hours in response to the recent move by the US to impose reciprocal tariffs.
He informed the decision to reporters after a meeting was held at the Finance Ministry in Dhaka in the afternoon on Sunday (April 6).
The meeting was attended by four advisers, a high-level representative, a special ambassador, around ten secretaries, and four representatives from leading business groups.
Shafiqur Alam said one letter will be sent to US President Donald Trump from the Chief Adviser, while the other will be sent to the United States Trade Representative (USTR) from Bangladesh’s Trade Adviser.
Press Secretary said Bangladesh is in constant communication with US officials, both through the embassy in Dhaka and directly with USTR.
He said the content and language of the letters were discussed in detail during the meeting. “After full discussion with all key stakeholders, the decision was made to send both letters within 48 hours.”
The letters will reflect Bangladesh’s pro-business stance and focus on protecting the country’s trade interests, he said.
“Our letters will show that Bangladesh is more business-friendly than its competitors. The goal is to ensure a win-win situation for both countries and increase Bangladesh’s market access in the US,” he said.
