DHAKA: Journalists and lawyers faced-off in the Supreme Court Wednesday following an altercation on that halted procedure of the concerned court.
Witnesses said that after starting the procedure at 10:45am in the court of Judge Naima Haidar and Judge Jafar Ahmed, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) president and general secretary along with hundreds of journalists entered into the court room.
Later, noticing the presence of large number of journalists in the court, lawyer Syed Mamun Mahbur became angered and locked into an altercation with journalists.
At one stage of the altercation, Judges left the court room.
Later, agitating lawyers and journalists locked into an scuffle at the court premises that created a tense situation there.
Later, the court procedure has started again at around 12:00pm.
Earlier, the High Court summoned the DRU president and general secretary for giving derogatory statements over the comments of lawyers delivered during the hearing of a defamation case against bangla daily Prothom Alo.
