Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Bangla New Year 1432.

He also urged citizens to embrace the new year with renewed determination and a collective pledge to build an inclusive and discrimination-free nation.

In a video message, Prof Yunus described 2024 as a pivotal year of transformation, stating, “The mass uprising of 2024 has opened the door to create a Bangladesh free from injustice. Let us not let this opportunity slip away. Our New Year’s commitment must be to build a just and equal society.”

Describing Pahela Baishakh as a symbol of harmony and unity, he said, “This is a day that brings everyone closer. It is the first Pahela Baishakh of a new Bangladesh—let us leave behind the pain and negativity of the past and move forward with hope and purpose.”

Prof Yunus emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Bangladesh’s cultural heritage, encouraging everyone to actively uphold and share it with future generations and the global community. “Pahela Baishakh is more than a festival—it is a celebration of Bengali identity and spirit, observed with pride by Bengalis around the world,” he added.

He noted the agricultural roots of the Bangla calendar, highlighting its continued relevance for farmers today. Traditions like Halkhata, observed by traders across the country, and the vibrant Boishakhi fairs, where artisans display crafts such as clay toys, hand fans, and shital pati, reflect the enduring cultural richness of the celebration.

Prof Yunus also acknowledged the large-scale celebrations of Chaitra Sankranti and Bangla Nababarsha by various ethnic communities.

He concluded with a message of hope: “May the New Year 1432 bring peace, prosperity, and joy to all.”
