DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led 19-party alliance is observing hartal in 19 upazilas of five districts of the country on Sunday protesting upazila polls violence.

The alliance called the shutdown at 19-upazilas for Saturday over allegations for vote manipulating, obstructing polling agent by ruling party men, vandalizing, casting fake votes and so on.

Banglanews Bagerhat Correspondent reports:

Jamaat-Shibir called a daylong hartal at nine upazilas of the district protesting the killing of Shibir leader Manjurul Islam during the third phase of upazila polls held Saturday.

District Shibir Presdient Hafez Azmal confirmed the matter through a press release on the day.

Banglanews Comilla correspondent reports:

BNP and Jamaat activists are observing a half day hartal on Sunday in Chauddagram and Nangolkot upazilas of the district on a protest of upazila polls violence.

In Feni:

A half day hartal is being observed by the 19-party in six upazilas of the district on the same issue.

The movements of vehicles were hardly seen in the area, banglanews correspondent reported.

On the other hand, the dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by BNP, is underway in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district and Muladi upazila of Barisal district on the same issue.

No untoward situation was reported from the upazilas till filing the report
