Army reveals list of 626 sheltered after July uprising

The Bangladesh Army on Thursday (May 22) issued a formal clarification stating that a total of 626 individuals, including political figures, judges, civil and police officials, and their family members, were temporarily given shelters in various military cantonments across the country following the July-August 2024 uprising.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the move was made on humanitarian grounds to protect lives amid nationwide unrest following the fall of the previous government.

Among those sheltered were 24 political figures, 5 judges, 515 police personnel, and 51 family members.

ISPR said that most individuals left within days as stability returned, and five were handed over to law enforcement.

The Army warned against misinformation aimed at harming its reputation and reiterated its commitment to national security and public trust.
