DHAKA: Bangladesh was elected as a member of the executive board of the United Nations Children`s Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday, says a Foreign Ministry press release Thursday.
The election was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on Wednesday. Bangladesh will hold the responsibility for the next three years (2015-17) with the consent of the member states.
Bangladesh Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Dr AK Abdul Momen, in an instant reaction, said the member states’ support to Bangladesh is an acknowledgement to the women and children development of Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Momen, on behalf of the Bangladesh Mission, thanked the member states.
