The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today (May 31) issued a cautionary signal for inland river ports as rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds are likely to affect parts of the country.
According to a weather bulletin issued this morning, river ports in Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet regions have been asked to hoist cautionary signal number one.
Winds in these areas may reach speeds of 45 to 60 km per hour, the BMD said.
The warning for inland river ports will remain valid until 6:00 pm today.
In a separate advisory, the Met Office said maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to lower cautionary signals, as squally weather is unlikely over the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas.
The BMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as needed.
