Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus today (June 2) said that the July Charter will be announced through a consensus among all political parties.
Speaking at the opening of the second round of the National Consensus Commission's dialogue at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, he expressed hope that a “beautiful and united” July Charter could be finalised with support from all sides.
“We are here today for the good of the country. I believe we can prepare the July Charter with everyone's agreement,” said Prof Yunus, who also serves as chairman of the commission.
He said that the government is working to reduce political differences and bring all parties closer together ahead of the Charter’s announcement.
Commission Vice-Chairman Prof Ali Riaz said the goal remains to publish the Charter in July, as the commission’s term is set to end in August 2025.
“We must fulfill the important duty entrusted to us,” he said.
Today’s dialogue is the second round of talks between the commission and political parties. Delegates from various parties and groups involved in the reform process were present.
The commission was formed to review proposals from five key reform bodies on the constitution, judiciary, election system, public administration, and the Anti-Corruption Commission.
The first round of discussions took place from February 15 to May 19, during which the commission met with 33 political parties.
