Khaleda to move to HC

DHAKA: Bringing no-confidence on the lower court, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s lawyers decided to move to the High Court for seeking justice in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

Besides, they also will plead to the court to dismiss the charge framed against Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman.

Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Sanaullah confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He also said, “We are going to the High Court as the court framed charge without even holding any hearing and asking questions against the person whom the court framed charge.”
Earlier in the day, Judge Basudev Roy of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 framed charges against nine persons, including Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman, in two graft cases.
Judge also fixed April 19 as date of deposition after defense lawyers submitted a petition to the court for deferring the charge framing.

The other accused in Zia Orphanage Trust Case BNP Tarique Rahman, former MP Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed.

Besides, the accused in Zia Charitable Trust case are Ziaul Islam Munna, Monirul Islam Khan, Khaleda Zia’s forcer political affairs secretary Haris Chowdhury.

Defense counsel Taherul Islam Tawhid said they submitted the time petition as the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has not yet given any decision against the High Court order that rejected the appeal of the accused that two cases cannot run together.

Earlier in the day, Khaleda Zia appeared before the special judge court for hearing on charge framing against her and others in the two cases.

Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Barrister Sanaullah Mia brought no-confidence proposal against the judge of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 during the hearing which was rejected.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed two cases against them in 2008 and 2011 for embezzling money using the name of the charitable organizations.
