LAXMIPUR: Miscreant shot dead a leader of Awami Swechchasebak League (ASL), an associate body of ruling Awami League (AL), in Ramganj upazilla of the district Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Nur Hossain, 28, Korpara union organizing secretary of ASL and son of Kalu Mian of the area.

Later, leaders and activists of AL and its associate bodies staged demonstration at Ramganj town protesting the killing, which took place in Akillabari area of Korpara Union of the upazila at 10:30pm.

Union Parisahd Chairman Mojibul Haque, also the union AL president, confirmed the killing news to banglanews.

Locals said miscreant shot the ASL leader on his way home at night, leaving him dead on the spot.

Ramganj Police Station Officer-In-Charge Lokman Hossain said on information, police rushed to the spot, the body would be sent to the district Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Legal actions would be taken after investigation, the OC added.
