DHAKA: Four shops were gutted in a devastating fire broke out at Multiplan Center, a computer market, at Elephant Road in the city on Saturday night.

Sources said the fire broke out around 9:00pm and on information, 14 fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire after one and half an hour frantic effort.

In the meantime, four shops housed at ninth and tenth floor of the market burnt to ashes, said Fire service DG Brigadier General Ali Ahmed.

The fire might have originated from electric short circuit. No causality was reported in the incident, he added.

The Fire service DG also said fire fighters rescued four people safely who were trapped in the building.

A nine-member team was formed to fix the extent of loss in the incident. Market will remain open Sunday except ninth and tenth floors, authorities concerned said
